Me + Dave LaChapelle = Bliss

Being a fan of Dave LaChapelle’s print editorials for the likes of Vogue as well as the in your face, over the top photo shoots of celebrities (Micheal Jackson standing on Satan anyone??) I was really upset when he announced his retirement from fashion photography in 2005. However, my friend told me about one of his exhibitions here in London and I jumped at the chance to go with her.

He’s back sans the celebrities making an illustrious transition from fashion photographer to fine artist with a collection paintings. His latest collection is called ‘Earth laughs at flowers’ and as the name suggests these are paintings of flowers. But that would be too straightforward for Mr LaChapelle so you’ll need to look very closely to notice that these just aren’t any flowers. I won’t give anything away though. Why not pop down to check them out? You won’t be dissapointed.

The exhibition runs until the 24th of March 2012 @ Robilant & Voena, 38 Dover Street, W1S 4NL 🙂

Make your signature count: Help close Guantanamo Bay

Sign our global petition calling on President Obama to take action to close Guantánamo by ending indefinite detention. It’s been ten years too long.

On 11 January 2002 the first detainees were transferred to Guantánamo Bay. Since then, the US detention facility has made headlines with allegations of torture, enforced disappearances and illegal detention.

A decade on and 171 detainees remain at Guantánamo Bay. At least 12 arrived as part of the original group first transferred ten years ago. Most have never been charged with a crime and don’t know when they will face trial, if at all. Those who have been charged face unfair trial by military commission.

Indefinite detention without trial violates international human rights law and must end now.

Freaky but somehow cool

When I first saw this picture it cause me to freak out just a tiny bit. Actually, I freaked out a lot though I don’t really know why. I actually really love anything with a skull design. I just know I won’t be able to look at an apple the same way ever again 😦

The artwork is entitled Apple of Death and it’s by a Finnish artist called Jaakko Rajala. Enjoy!
